Investing in state-of-the-art technology has been key to Entripy’s growth as a leader in the custom apparel industry, so when we were approached by Visions of Science a local nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) learning to youth in marginalized communities, we knew we had to help.
STEM and Low-Income Youth
Since 2004, Visions of Science has been providing youth from low-income communities with opportunities to engage with STEM learning. “Youth who are commonly marginalized as a result of their low socio-economic status face numerous barriers to STEM engagement and are often underrepresented in STEM fields as a result,” says Visions of Science Executive Director Eugenia Duodu.
The organization operates in 19 communities in the Greater Toronto Area and provides hands-on opportunities to engage students in scientific learning and experimentation as well as connecting youth to STEM professionals to expose them to STEM career options.
The Importance of STEM Education
In a competitive global marketplace, Canada’s future top jobs will require STEM based literacy and skills. However, youth from marginalized communities often face barriers to meaningful engagement in STEM either from limited financial resources or negative perceptions of STEM by parents. The free, ongoing opportunities provided by Visions of Science give students access to fun, hands-on STEM learning through weekend STEM clubs, summer learning camps and in-school enrichment.
How Entripy Helped
Entripy understands the importance of these skills in science and technology to compete in today’s hyper competitive global marketplace. It’s through a heavy investment in technology that Entripy has been able to grow to become Canada’s leader in custom apparel.
Entripy provided 250 custom t-shirts for Visions of Science’s Visionary Expo. Held at the Ontario Science Centre, youth from all 19 community STEM club locations came together to present their learnings from the year to the public.
Canadian Astronaut Dr. Dave Williams gave a keynote speech followed by a riveting Q and A session. The highlight of the event, though, were the incredible STEM presentations given by the youth, all of whom were provided with Visions of Science custom t-shirts as a memento of their participation at the event.
“With support from Entripy, we were able to provide each of our youth with t-shirts to wear throughout the event and to take home at the end. The students loved the shirts and were very grateful to have them,” says Duodu.
