Taking Steps Toward a Brighter Future for Kidney Disease
Did you know one in 10 Canadians have kidney disease and over 1,000 Ontarians are awaiting a kidney transplant? According to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, the number of Canadians being treated for kidney failure has tripled in the last 20 years, impacting families and communities in growing numbers.
About the Kidney Foundation of Canada
The Kidney Foundation of Canada was formed in 1964 after a young Montreal architect, Morty Tarder, passed away from kidney disease. Today, the foundation is the national health charity committed to improving the lives of those living with kidney disease through peer support, information and referral services and is a lead investor in kidney research. Although there is no cure for kidney disease, over 57 percent of Canadians with renal failure are on dialyses and 42 percent are living with a functional transplant. The Kidney Foundation of Canada has contributed over $110 million to research since the organization’s inception.
Walking for Kidney Disease
The Kidney Walks are the largest community fundraising events in Ontario dedicated to raising funds for research, programs and services that support people living with kidney disease, and are a great way for families and friends in the kidney community to come together to show support. In Ontario, kidney walks began 12 years ago with a coordinated effort in 10 communities to raise funds to invest in vital kidney disease research and to support programs and resources for those living with kidney disease. The walks have grown in number since then and have become one of the Kidney Foundation’s signature events. In September 2016, 40 walks took place in small and large communities across Ontario, raising $750,000 to support the Kidney Foundation’s programs as well as kidney research.
How Entripy Helps
Entripy donated over 3,500 custom t-shirts for the Kidney Walks all across Ontario. The customized t-shirt design featured kidneys in the pattern of footprints across the front of the shirt, showing that one small step can make a big difference in the lives of those affected by kidney disease.
“Kidney Walk participants proudly wore their Kidney Walk t-shirts generously donated by Entripy Custom Clothing this September at 40 walk events across Ontario. Through the generosity of Entripy, fellow sponsors and walkers, The Kidney Foundation can continue to provide help and hope to thousands of Canadians whose lives are impacted by kidney disease,” says Anthony Tirone, Director, Philanthropy and Community Development, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, Ontario Branch.
