Gabrielle’s ride is a local annual charity bike ride that raises funds for the SickKids Foundation, a charity that funds research into congenital heart conditions as well as support for affected children and their families. The bike ride is named after Gabrielle Cinanni, a girl from Halton Ontario who was diagnosed with congenital heart disease when she was just 2 months old. The ride takes place in Oakville and is held every year in her memory. It serves as a dedication to her joyous spirit and her loving family.
About Gabrielle
Shortly after Gabrielle was born, she was diagnosed with a rare form of congenital heart disease for which there was no known cure. As a small child, she endured many operations and treatments to help tackle her heart condition. With the help of doctors and the love of her family, she battled the condition for five and half years before passing away. She lived a full and active life that brought immeasurable happiness to her family. She will be remembered for her big smile fun loving nature.
The Annual Gabrielle's Ride
Gabrielle’s Ride consists of a range of different cycle events. There are family oriented events around the Quarry Lake, taking in the beautiful surroundings which include the 1km Tour for Tykes, 2.5km Rainbow Ride, 5km Warrior Ride and 10km Family Adventure Ride. There are also much longer Epic rides up to 165 km for serious cyclists, hosted by PWC.
Helping SickKids Save Lives
Gabrielle’s ride has had a clear and measurable impact on pediatric health in Canada. The money raised has achieved a huge amount in the field of cardiac research, treatment and awareness. The money raised has funded the World’s First Pediatric/stroke Cardiac Program at SickKids Hospital, a pediatric stroke education programs for physicians in the Halton and Peel areas and the setting up of a world leading pediatric cardiac research centre at Sick Kids Hospital. The scope of what Gabrielle’s Ride has achieved is staggering.
