The Kidney Foundation of Canada was formed in 1964 after a young Montreal architect, Morty Tarder, passed away from kidney disease. Today, the foundation is the national health charity committed to improving the lives of those living with kidney disease through peer support, information and referral services and is a lead investor in kidney research. Although there is no cure for kidney disease, over 57 percent of Canadians with renal failure are on dialyses and 42 percent are living with a functional transplant. Quidditch was created out of the fictional sport in the Harry Potter Novels in 2005 by Xander Manshel, a freshman at Middlebury College in Vermont. The first quidditch club in Canada was formed in 2008 at McGill University and there are now over 30 quidditch teams in Canada and over 300 teams worldwide.  Central Alberta Quidditch formed in 2013 and runs youth and adult programs to help advance the sport in Canada. The Trek for Teens Foundation is a not-for-profit organization created to raise funds and awareness for homeless youth. The Foundation hosts concerts, fashion shows, film festivals, conferences, dance workshops and community outreach events. To date, the Foundation has raised over $31,000 for homeless youth. Mississauga’s central food bank provides healthy food to thousands of hungry children, families and seniors each month. The Mississauga Food Bank was founded by Streetsville United Church, Solel Congregation and the Baha’I Community of Mississauga in 1986. In 1990, the food bank served approximately 18 families a day. Today The Missisauga Food Bank provides food for 2.2 million meals each year through its network of member agencies. Read More...

For over 25 years, the World Wildlife Fund(WWF) has been challenging fitness enthusiasts and environmentalists to take to the top of Canada’s tallest building and show their commitment to wildlife preservation. This past weekend (April 16-17), thousands of individuals, groups and corporate teams climbed up the 1,776 steps (144 flights) of the CN Tower to raise funds to support the WWF’s work. Read More...
